The British agritech start-up surpassed its initial target with backing from over 2,500 retail investors.
"This funding round is transformative to Small Robot Company. The 2600 investors have provided us with the resources to deliver on our promise, to both farmers and corporate customers. It is proof, not only that Small Robot Company is technically capable of delivering the change that farmers need, but that there is overwhelming public and industry support for delivering our vision, and the need for per plant farming in the food system of tomorrow."
Green Angel Syndicate and WWF led the round to support the expansion of the company biorefinery model.
"The calibre of investors in this round of funding highlights the opportunity and obligation we have to create a market for sustainably farmed seaweed and drive systemic change by providing regenerative food and material sources. We will continue to work closely with regional and global conservation partners including WWF, Safe Seaweed Coalition and Seaweed for Europe to ensure we lay the best possible foundations for what will be a transformative industry, in terms of both economic, societal and environmental impact."
Oxford Sciences Innovation led the seed investment, which will fund commercialisation and technological advancement.
"The world must create 70% more food by 2050 in a sustainable way. We need to double production, improve efficiencies on existing farmland, and avoid destroying more rainforests. At Omega Crop we can monitor and evaluate vast tracts of farmland, diagnosing crop loss events at scale and enable targeted interventions that will help feed our growing world."
