Agreement

Winfred (winfred.co.uk) is operated by C8VA Limited, a company registered in England and Wales ("C8VA", "we"). By using the site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the site.

The service

Winfred aggregates publicly announced UK startup funding activity into a structured record: rounds, companies, investors, and the people involved. Browsing the site, accounts, follows, alerts, and feeds are provided free of charge, as is, and as available. Data downloads are a paid feature and are subject to the additional terms below.

Accounts

Some features — following companies and investors, email alerts and the daily digest, personal RSS feeds, and submitting announcements — require an account. You must give a working email address, keep your password confidential, and not share your account; you are responsible for activity under it, so tell us promptly if you believe it has been compromised. Your personal RSS feed URLs contain a private token: anyone you give a URL to can read that feed, and you can invalidate the URLs at any time from your settings page.

We may suspend or close an account used in breach of these terms. You can close your account at any time by asking through the data requests page. How we handle account data is described in the privacy policy.

Data downloads

Download access gives you, the individual account holder, a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to download the dataset files offered at the time and to use them for your own, or your employer's, internal purposes. The licence is per person: it does not extend to colleagues, clients, or anyone else, and each person who wants the files needs their own download access.

You must not share, publish, resell, sublicense, or otherwise make the files or any substantial part of them available to any third party, in their original form or any derivative form — including as extracts, enriched or combined datasets, or as part of a competing product or database. Unauthorised sharing or republication deprives us of sales and will cause us loss, for which we may claim damages and seek an injunction, in addition to revoking your access without refund. Files may be watermarked so that the source of a shared copy can be identified.

The files are supplied as is. The full extent of the dataset is browsable on Winfred before you buy, so you are able to judge its scope, accuracy, and value for yourself, and you buy on that basis. We give no warranty as to the accuracy, completeness, timeliness, or fitness for any purpose of the data, which is compiled from public sources as described under Accuracy of content.

Download access covers the dataset as it stands at the time you download it. While access is not time-limited, we make no commitment to keep collecting new data, to update the files, to keep any record in them, or to continue operating the download service or the site; if we discontinue it, your licence for files already downloaded continues but no further files will be supplied.

Some files contain personal data — the names, roles, and business contact details of people involved in the companies and funds we cover. Once you download them you are an independent controller of that data: it is your responsibility to use it lawfully, including under the UK GDPR and PECR if you use it for direct marketing, and to honour objections and erasure requests made to you.

You may analyse the files with whatever tools you like, including AI models, for your own internal use — but you must not use them to train or ground any model or system that makes the dataset, or a substantial part of it, available to others.

The files are digital content supplied immediately: by downloading, you consent to immediate supply and acknowledge that you lose any statutory right to cancel the purchase once a download has begun.

Submitting announcements

If you submit an announcement, you confirm that you are entitled to share it and that it is accurate, and you grant C8VA Limited a non-exclusive, perpetual licence to reproduce it and to publish structured records derived from it (the round, the companies, investors, and people it names). Submissions are reviewed by a person before anything is published, and we may decline or remove any submission at our discretion.

Accuracy of content

Our content is compiled from public sources, including press releases and announcements written by third parties, and is processed partly automatically. We work to keep it accurate, but we make no guarantee of the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of anything published on Winfred, and we accept no liability for decisions made in reliance on it. Spotted an error? Tell us through the data requests page and we will review it.

Not advice

Nothing on Winfred is financial, investment, legal, or tax advice, or a recommendation of any company, fund, or security. Do your own diligence.

Intellectual property

The design of the site and our original write-ups, summaries, and compilations belong to C8VA Limited, and the Winfred dataset is protected as a database by copyright and database right; extracting or re-utilising a substantial part of it, other than as these terms allow, is an infringement. The underlying facts of funding announcements are public. Company and fund logos remain the property of their owners and are displayed for identification only.

Acceptable use

Do not use the site to mislead, to harass anyone featured on it, or in a way that disrupts the service for others, including abusive automated access or creating accounts with false details. Reasonable quoting of our content with attribution is welcome.

Third-party links

The site links to third-party websites (company sites, LinkedIn profiles, source articles). We are not responsible for their content.

Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, C8VA Limited excludes all warranties and will not be liable for any indirect or consequential loss arising from use of the site or of downloaded files, and our total liability in connection with data downloads is limited to the amount you paid for the download access giving rise to the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under the law of England and Wales.

Changes and governing law

We may update these terms from time to time; continued use means acceptance of the current version. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
