The University of Strathclyde in Glasgow is home to around 25,000 students and 4,000 staff, placing useful learning and real-world impact at the heart of its activities.
Stuart manages commercialisation infrastructure at the University of Strathclyde, having previously developed spin-out companies there. His background includes business development at Scottish Borders Enterprise and accountancy training at Touche Ross.
SFC Capital led the round with backing from the University of Strathclyde and Scottish Enterprise.

Eos Advisory led the Series A round alongside new and existing backers to fund international expansion and commercialisation.

This is very much aligned with Eos’ approach to investing in innovation that has the potential to impact positively in people's lives. More recently the team at Dxcover have focused on building a world class international team on both sides of the Atlantic. This funding round is very much about commercialization in both the UK and the US."
The financing round includes contributions from Deepbridge Capital, Scottish Enterprise, SIS Ventures, Thairm Bio, and the University of Strathclyde to support clinical trials and commercial expansion.
"Our mission at Microplate Dx is to improve the quality of lives for patients by providing antimicrobial stewardship cost-effectively. Any delay in identifying the correct antibiotic for treatment can put lives at risks and huge pressure on clinical decision making, especially when the antibiotic sensitivity data that Microplate Dx can produce in an hour or less compared to the current approach that can take two days using existing techniques."
The funding round was backed by a group of existing investors alongside a grant from the European Innovation Council.
"This is a very significant funding milestone in our mission to detect cancer early and improve survival and quality of life for patients. Having demonstrated our multi-cancer capability, we can now focus on building the pipeline of organ-specific tests, beginning with a multi-center study to gain regulatory approval for the brain cancer test. We will also expand our data on colorectal cancer, one of the leading causes of death worldwide, and continue our work on collaborative projects."
The pre seed round was co led by Techstart Ventures and Nauta Capital to support team expansion and platform development.

The Glasgow space technology start-up has raised £3.1m from investors including Space Capital and the Scottish National Investment Bank to scale its connectivity platform.
"We immediately saw the opportunity with R3-IoT, which is essentially Nest for organisations with remote industrial facilities. This is the right company at the right time that will benefit tremendously from new backhaul capacity coming online through low-Earth orbit satellite communications."
Norcliffe Capital led the latest investment as the cancer diagnostics firm reached its £3.5m target.
"Achieving the £3.5m target enables us to accelerate our plans. We will shortly complete our move into new lab and office facilities and increase staffing to 15, bringing forward key operational and commercial appointments."
The funding round was led by Mercia and will support the firm in progressing its multi-cancer diagnostic programmes.
"Worldwide, 26,000 people die from cancer each day. Early detection is critical for effective treatment, but many cancers go undetected for too long. This funding is another significant step forward for ClinSpec Dx in our mission to detect cancer earlier and help to increase patient survival and quality of life."
The investment round was led by Foresight Group and Williams Advanced Engineering to support international growth and manufacturing scale-up.
