The oversubscribed round will fund commercial expansion and the development of new artificial intelligence capabilities.
"The sector is in a well-documented state of crisis, and we have empirically proved how we can alleviate pressures of diminishing budgets, resources and even bankruptcy that local governments are facing. This success and evidence is what has delivered investor confidence and powered this oversubscription."
The Sheffield-based industrial sensor firm raised £1.5m in follow-on funding to accelerate product development and create technical jobs.
"Industry is facing a host of challenges such as the need to be energy efficient, sustainable and ESG compliant, reduce costs and enhance quality. Our integrated sensing solutions provide the data required to help companies to meet these challenges and achieve digital transformation. The funding will help us to drive further growth and bring our solutions to a wider global audience."
The funding was backed by the UK Innovation & Science Seed Fund, Oxford Innovation EIS Growth Fund, Oxford Innovation Finance's Angel Network, and the Defence and Security Accelerator.
"This new investment provides us with the funding to take our game changing technology to commercialisation, helping deliver the UK government’s semiconductor and technology strategy. Our Inertial sensors are already gaining strong industry interest globally with a major aerospace and defence contractor having already placed contracts. Our revolutionary gravity sensor will be commercialised later this year with the industry interest shown by our acceptance on to Europe’s largest infrastructure accelerator program and the award of funding from the Department for Business and Trade railway construction innovation competition. We are very excited for this next stage in SMG’s journey."

Octopus Ventures led the seed financing round to help the Sheffield spin-out commercialise its infrared sensors.
"We are delighted to be leading this investment round for Phlux Technology, as this innovative breakthrough is critical to the future direction of transport, communication and emission monitoring systems,"
