Phlux Technology has secured £4m in seed funding to accelerate the commercialisation of its high-performance infrared sensors. The round was led by Octopus Ventures, with participation from Northern Gritstone, the Foresight Williams Technology Funds, the Innovation Fund, and Innovate UK. The company will use the capital to transition its technology to full commercial production and scale its engineering team.
The Sheffield University spin-out has developed a unique approach to infrared detection using antimony, creating sensors that offer significantly greater range and sensitivity than traditional silicon-based alternatives. These components have applications across LIDAR systems, satellite communications, and autonomous vehicles. The latest injection of capital supports the firm as it positions itself within the UK semiconductor sector.
