The Bristol-based biotech start-up has closed its pre-seed round ahead of commercial production and launch.

"There is so much biological information that could enable early intervention for healthcare, but no route to clear access. The menstrual cycle is a non-invasive route to giving our users better health data for better health outcomes,. Many health conditions are difficult for researchers to analyse at the moment because they require invasive testing or regular monitoring which is inconvenient, time-intensive and often uncomfortable. Emm has the potential to do this in a practical, painless way."

£1.7M

The funding round was supported by Angel Investment Network to drive international growth and team expansion.

"We are delighted angel investors have backed our business supporting life’s messiest moments! We’re challenging industries that have relied for too long on synthetic fibres, petroleum plastics, pesticide and harsh chemical residues. Our sustainable products are sex positive, period positive and body positive, and we are proud to use cheekiness, humour and education to combat cultural embarrassment around these areas. Our customers seem to agree, and we have seen fantastic growth over the past three years, with many major retailers stocking our products. This investment will help our exciting plans to grow the business in the UK and US."

The virtual fertility clinic raised funds from MTIP and Iris Ventures to accelerate international expansion and technology development.

"MTIP’s deep-rooted understanding of the healthcare landscape combined with Iris Ventures’ expertise in the consumer space will be invaluable as Apricity enters its next stage of growth and we expand into more regions."
— Caroline Noublanche, Founder and CEO

The seed round was co-led by Speedinvest and Nina Capital to fund international expansion and team growth.

"The time to invest in Women’s reproductive health is now. Alice’s ability to build community, content, and tools that women love but have never had access to is second- to-none. Contraception is just the start of The Lowdown’s bold vision in Women’s health and we are thrilled to be supporting them on it!"
— Andrea Zitna, Health team lead
