HearstLab launches its UK presence by backing the London financial technology company.
"We are excited to announce that Akoni will be our first investment in the U.K. Their digital tools and customer-centric experience are unmatched, and we look forward to helping them continue to grow and innovate,"
The financing round was led by Spark Capital and General Catalyst to accelerate platform development as the company exits its beta phase.
"The need for building and maintaining community connection remotely has always been essential, and there's an obvious demand for tools that do more than just livestream our faces. We've created a platform that puts us back in the room together so we can do what we do best and what we miss the most when we're remote—connect with others and create communities."
The funding round was led by Archangels with participation from the Scottish Investment Bank and company insiders.
"Our technology roadmap is all about empowering companies with real life insight to the risks their employees face at work. The added ability to help companies and their workers get back to work safely by helping them to maintain a safe distance from each other is another string to our bow and I’m proud of the team that has developed this facility in such a short space of time. It has caught the attention of the media and of hundreds of companies who are wrestling with the restrictions that are being placed on all of us as a consequence of the Coronavirus crisis."
The capital will be used to execute the company product roadmap and expand its technology team.
"As we gear up for our next stage of development, we are delighted to have oversold our seed funding and welcome our new investors. This significant cash injection allows us to deliver an exciting product with an innovation cycle, fast and responsive to customer needs."
