Teooh raises £3.6m in seed funding led by Spark Capital and General Catalyst to expand its virtual gathering platform.
The financing round was led by Spark Capital and General Catalyst to accelerate platform development as the company exits its beta phase.
Teooh provides an avatar-based virtual gathering platform designed to facilitate remote meetings, events, and personal get-togethers. The technology allows users to interact in custom-built virtual spaces using mobile devices without requiring virtual reality headsets.
Teooh has secured £3.6m in seed funding led by Spark Capital and General Catalyst. The fresh capital will be deployed to accelerate platform growth, support leadership recruitment, and roll out additional virtual venues as the company prepares to conclude its beta testing phase.
The investment follows a period of rapid adoption for the avatar-based platform, which has hosted thousands of remote events since launching its beta in April 2020. The company aims to address the limitations of conventional video conferencing tools by offering shared virtual spaces that encourage natural interaction and community building.
From the founder
"The need for building and maintaining community connection remotely has always been essential, and there's an obvious demand for tools that do more than just livestream our faces. We've created a platform that puts us back in the room together so we can do what we do best and what we miss the most when we're remote—connect with others and create communities."
Jon Hibbins
co-founder and CTO at Teooh
Investor perspective
"People are using social media and collaboration tools more than ever, but the current video ecosystem lacks the ability to let individuals sit down next to each other and truly connect. Real human connection happens in a shared environment, virtual or physical, and Teooh has created a safe, comfortable space where people can focus on growing genuine relationships. We're pleased to work with Teooh as the company pursues this massive opportunity."
