A London startup that builds artificial intelligence systems to detect and counteract online disinformation campaigns.

London-based startup Refute has secured £5m in a seed funding round led by Amadeus Capital Partners. Additional backing came from Playfair, Episode 1, Osney Capital, and the National Security Strategic Investment Fund.

Founded in 2024, the company uses artificial intelligence to help governments and corporations identify and respond to online manipulation, bot networks, and fake narratives. Its platform aggregates public data streams to highlight emerging threats and provide automated countermeasures.

The capital will be directed towards recruiting engineering talent, enhancing detection capabilities, and expanding across European markets.

From the founder

"We spent all our careers fighting criminal activity online and care deeply about elevating trust in the internet. The decision to develop the technology behind Refute came after seeing firsthand that disinformation targeting organisations was the next big threat vector, especially for commercial companies."
