Guardian Angel is a death tech company that provides digital planning and management tools for end-of-life arrangements. The platform helps users organise wills, life insurance, and post-death support through direct consumer access and partnerships.

Death tech startup Guardian Angel has secured £1.1m in a seed funding round led by impact investor Fair By Design. The company, which helps individuals organise end-of-life arrangements, plans to use the capital to expand its Manchester-based development team and scale its online planning platform.

The investment follows a period of growth for the business, which has seen its customer base reach 100k alongside a tripling of its team and revenue over the preceding six months. Additional backing came from institutional participants including Ascension Ventures, GC Angels, and Accelerated Digital Ventures, alongside angel investors Andrew Weisz and Rod Bulmer.

The fresh capital will support the company as it responds to increased demand for digital planning tools, accelerated by pandemic-related awareness. Guardian Angel distributes its services both directly and via partnerships with major charities, employers, and funeral directors.

From the founder

"On top of the obvious grief and shock, I discovered that the end-of-life industry was expensive and difficult to navigate, especially in an intensely emotional time. The industry had been largely untouched by technological innovation and needed to rapidly modernise."

Investor perspective

"GC Angels was drawn to Guardian Angel by Sam’s real passion to make a difference in an industry that so many have a negative experience with. Death tech is an area ripe for disruption, but also an area that many are afraid to approach. The team at Guardian Angel are committed to changing this. This funding round will support Guardian Angel to grow its development team in Manchester and further develop its death planning tool. That they have chosen Manchester to expand in is testament to the talented tech community we have here and I’m looking forward to seeing how the team goes on to support people across the country during such a difficult time."
