The London based regulatory technology firm has closed a seed round backed by several private investors to accelerate research and international expansion.
"One of the major pain points any enterprise will face is the inefficient use of labour to manage repetitive, manual and error-prone processes that involve the extraction and checking of unstructured data,"
The investment round was led by FoundersX with participation from Founders Factory, Y Combinator, and Plug and Play Ventures.
"This is a massive achievement for us. When we came to market 2 years ago we were probably the only technology company talking about fairness and diversity. Fairness has been our core purpose from day one, it’s in our DNA, and we are so grateful to our investors and clients who saw how important our message was. For me this represents an investment in diversity, not just our company. This latest round will allow us to grow our capability in our core markets, levelling the playing field and breaking the cycle of exclusion that still chronically prevalent in the world of work. It is also a huge vote of confidence in the team who have worked so hard over the past 2 years to bring our purpose to life."
The investment round was co-led by Lakestar and Dawn Capital with participation from Temasek and Goldman Sachs.
"When we founded Eigen five years ago, I wanted build a research-led transatlantic business. Since the Series A we have made great progress by massively scaling the company, expanding our client base, and integrating cutting-edge machine learning techniques into our NLP product. This new round will allow us to supercharge our growth. 80-90% of the enterprise data in the world today is unstructured information such as text, meaning that most organizations are unable to it unlock its value. With continuing economic uncertainty and the ongoing disruption by data-native companies such as Google, Tencent, and Amazon the imperative to be able to leverage this data is stronger than ever. The new funding will enable Eigen to further its core mission by unlocking the value of our clients’ qualitative data. This will be underpinned by another big investment in our science team, which will double in size so that we can continue to stay at the forefront of machine learning research."
The biotechnology spin-out raised funds from backers including the Angel CoFund and o2h Ventures alongside Department of Health and Social Care grants.
"This latest funding further validates our computational design-led focus that has enabled rapid progress in building our pipeline of novel antibiotic programmes."
The Series B round was led by Leaps by Bayer to support clinical studies and technology development.
"Medopad has a bold mission to help people live their life to the fullest – one that requires long-term commitment and partnership to achieve. We are delighted that Leaps by Bayer who participated in our Series A round have now become the lead investor in our Series B. We have found the ideal partner with the dedication to help us reach our vision of creating a world where each person lives their life to the fullest."
