"The success of any surgery depends not only on what happens inside the operating theatre but also on having a smooth-running operation behind the scenes. At Scalpel AI, we work with leading medical device companies and healthcare organisations to transform their logistical supply chain and reduce costs by millions of dollars. Together, we are making surgery safer for patients while paving the way for personalised surgery, which we believe is the future of healthcare."
The strategic backing from Hamamatsu Ventures will support international expansion and technological development.
"This collaboration marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for us, especially as we expand into the Japanese and Asia markets. Hamamatsu’s support has also been invaluable in our recently established U.S. operation, where their network has been helping us establish critical connections to scale our business."
The funding round combines backing from the Development Bank of Wales and Women Angels of Wales with grant support.
"We’re working hard to encourage more women to get involved with angel investing. Our support for Kaydiar is a great example of bringing together grant, angel and institutional funding to provide the resources to support the development of an innovative, early-stage company in Wales. Our syndicate is delighted to support Heather Smart and David Barton, two young podiatrists who are applying new technologies to improve patient outcomes in the footcare sector. We all look forward to working with Kaydiar to build a world class company."
The seed round was backed by British Design Fund to support the development of novel wound care devices.
"Around the world, wounds are still being treated largely the same way as they were 150 years ago, with dressings that are often not fit for purpose, leading to a slow, painful treatment process and poor outcomes for patients."
