Zero Point Motion develops advanced motion sensors by combining silicon photonics with micro-electro-mechanical systems. The startup provides high-precision accelerometers and gyroscopes for environments lacking GPS access.

Zero Point Motion has secured £2.6m in a seed round led by Foresight Williams Technology, with participation from Verve Ventures and u-blox. The capital will be deployed to establish a state-of-the-art laboratory in Bristol and launch a major recruitment campaign to accelerate research and development of photonic inertial sensor chips.

Founded in 2020, the company leverages cavity optomechanics to improve motion sensing precision across consumer devices, automotive systems, and emerging technologies. The financing marks a notable milestone for the firm as it looks to bring its novel semiconductor technology toward commercialisation.

From the founder

"With proven capability to detect motion smaller than the size of a single electron, cavity optomechanical sensing has already had extraordinary benefits for fundamental physics research. Now, we are harnessing this power to improve the inertial sensing devices we’ve come to rely on, bringing untold new potential to drones, VR/AR, indoor navigation and imaging stabilization."
