Sylvera raises £4.1m in seed funding led by Index Ventures to expand its carbon ratings platform
The seed round was led by Index Ventures with participation from existing backers and a research contract from Innovate UK.
Sylvera provides independent data and assessments for carbon offset projects through an online platform. The company uses proprietary data and machine learning to evaluate the performance of carbon markets.
Sylvera has secured £4.1m in seed funding to expand its technology platform and ratings capabilities. The round was led by Index Ventures, with continued backing from existing institutional investors including Seedcamp, Speedinvest, and Revent. Additional participation came from prominent angel investors, alongside a research contract from Innovate UK.
Launched to bring greater transparency to carbon markets, the company evaluates offset projects using satellite imagery and proprietary climate data. The fresh capital will support the ongoing development of its digital platform, which delivers independent performance assessments to corporate buyers, project developers, and trading marketplaces.
From the founder
"We founded Sylvera because we believed that in order to reach net zero, the world will require a well-functioning and scalable carbon offset market. Such a market will only work if all participants can trust in the projects they are trading. Currently, carbon offsetting is a very opaque market with little independent assurance available to guarantee an offset has taken place. The market also lacks the transparency companies need to compare projects globally across different standards,"

Investor perspective
"Large corporates and their shareholders are demanding more transparency as they execute their net zero strategies. Sylvera gives this transparency – enabling buyers to make better choices faster, and to manage risk with more confidence."
