Scintam Engineering is a University of Nottingham spinout that has developed an electrical technology to dissolve seized fasteners. The company helps industries such as aerospace and automotive reduce maintenance costs and prevent asset damage.

Scintam Engineering has secured £325k in a seed funding round featuring £125k from British Design Fund. The Nottingham-based start-up has created a system that uses electrical pulses to dissolve seized fasteners, replacing slow manual removal processes in sectors like aerospace and automotive.

The capital will support the company as it relocates to larger premises and recruits additional engineers. The funding coincides with an Innovate UK grant aimed at advancing product development and improving remanufacturing yields.

From the founder

"Releasing seized fasteners is a massive operational challenge across many industries, with current manual methods often leading to damage to assets and costly delays. With our technology, we aim to help reduce costs, increase operator safety, and provide certainty during maintenance scheduling."
