Portia AI secures £4.4m from General Catalyst to enhance control in AI agents

General Catalyst led the seed financing to accelerate the development of Portia AI's open source developer framework and cloud platform.

£4.4MSeed

Portia AI provides developer tools and open source frameworks for building controllable and secure enterprise AI agents.

Portia AI has secured £4.4m in funding led by General Catalyst to expand its team and accelerate product development. The company builds open source frameworks and cloud tools designed to help developers monitor, authenticate, and maintain human oversight over autonomous AI agents in production environments. The investment will support the rollout of new features aimed at improving reliability for regulated industries such as financial services.

Founded by former Stripe and Google executives Emma Burrows and Mounir Mouawad, the London based startup aims to address the lack of visibility and control that often hinders enterprise AI adoption. Its platform incorporates features such as step by step planning, human in the loop clarification, and just in time authentication to ensure predictable agent behaviour.
