The startup combines machine learning with biometric data to offer actionable insights and injury prediction across multiple disciplines.

Edinburgh-based sports technology startup PlayerData has raised £1.6m ($2.3m) in a Series A funding round led by venture capital firm Hiro Capital, with participation from existing backer Sir Terry Leahy. The company applies wearable technology and artificial intelligence to help grassroots and professional sports teams monitor player performance and predict injuries.

The capital will be used to fuel PlayerData's international expansion and support growth across multiple sports disciplines. The investment marks Hiro Capital's fourth venture in the digital sports and connected fitness sector, joining a portfolio that includes companies such as Zwift, FitXR and NURVV.
