Bristol-based manufacturer of touch-free portable women urinals constructed from recycled sea plastics.

Bristol-based startup PEEQUAL has secured £250k in its maiden funding round to support the rollout of its sustainable women urinals. The investment was backed by the British Design Fund, Monzo co-founder Tom Blomfield, former Gü COO Sarah Jones, and angel investors Chris Stamp and Elaine Groenestein.

The company produces flatpack portable urinals crafted from recycled sea plastics designed to speed up queue times at outdoor events and festivals. The new capital will allow the team to expand operations as they prepare for deployments across the UK festival circuit during the summer season.

Co-founders Amber Probyn and Hazel McShane developed the concept while studying at the University of Bristol, eventually launching the business after winning institutional backing. The founders also plan to explore partnerships that convert collected waste into electricity and fertiliser as part of their environmental mission.

From the founder

"This funding is not only a huge vote of confidence in PEEQUAL but also a big moment for pee equality the world over. We want PEEQUAL to empower women to take back their time and break the taboo around female urination. We are building a team to bring our urinals to festivals, sporting events, outdoor shows and more. We’re really proud to be changing the way women pee, and doing it in a safe way which reduces time spent in queues."

Investor perspective

"I’m proud to be an investor in PEEQUAL – it’s important that women have access to toilets that are quick, safe and sustainable. I was really impressed with Hazel and Amber’s drive and determination, and the progress they’ve made with the business is magnificent. I’m sure you’ll see more of their urinals at UK festivals this summer."
