£400KSeed

Norwich-based enterprise designing biodegradable plant-based packaging to supplant expanded polystyrene across multiple industries.

Norwich-based sustainable packaging creator iBoxit has brought in £400k in new capital, featuring a £230k contribution from the British Design Fund. The financing will underwrite the final stages of product engineering, production readiness, and client outreach.

The enterprise focuses on replacing conventional expanded polystyrene with proprietary biofoam products that biodegrade into natural fertiliser. Following domestic progress, the business is turning its attention to foreign markets, initiating commercial activities in Australia with Sweden to follow shortly.

This capital injection arrives on the heels of previous non-dilutive backing from Innovate UK, which aided early development work targeted at the seafood transportation sector.

From the founder

"The moment that changed everything for me was standing in a salmon processing plant and seeing thousands of single‑use EPS boxes piled up, destined for landfill or worse. It was truly shocking. I’d spent years in the seafood industry but witnessing that scale of waste in one place made the environmental cost impossible to ignore. I knew then that something had to change, and that experience has driven me ever since to prove that we can replace EPS with sustainable materials that protect both the product and the planet."
