Edinburgh-based Gecko Glazing has secured £150k in a funding round led by British Design Fund. The capital will be directed towards enhancing production facilities, acquiring new equipment, and advancing product and business development strategies.
Founded in 2020 by Gareth Claase, the start-up offers clear acrylic panes placed within existing window frames to reduce domestic heat loss and carbon emissions by up to half. The system provides a lower-cost alternative to conventional double glazing without damaging period features or listed buildings.
The investment arrives as UK households face rising energy costs and mounting pressure to improve domestic thermal efficiency.

Our Gecko Panes provide provide an affordable and easy way to reduce heat loss and emissions from the UK’s poorly insultated housing stock. We aim to install Gecko Panes in thousands of homes per year, not just in the UK, but in key export markets too."
