FreshCheck provides a colour change hygiene verification system that offers instant surface cleanliness confirmation without laboratory work. The technology combines simple swabs with an integrated application and web platform for real time monitoring.

London startup FreshCheck has secured £150k in funding from the British Design Fund to accelerate the rollout of its patented hygiene verification technology.

Founded in 2015 by Imperial College London alumni Alex Bond and John Simpson, the company offers a colour change swab system alongside an integrated app and web platform. The capital will be used to expand the product range and explore new applications in healthcare.

The investment will also help drive broader adoption of the company's testing processes across major food producers and international brands.

From the founder

"Microbial contamination is a global issue, from food safety to antimicrobial resistance. For too long, reliable hygiene testing has been limited to those who can afford the complex or costly tools. Our mission is to make contamination visible with easy-to-use, affordable products that anyone can use to protect consumers and patients with easy to interpret results and cleaning data analytics."
