The seed round was led by Startup Funding Club and will support product development for the tax platform.
Ember provides an open banking powered tax platform designed to automate accounting and tax processes for the self-employed.
Tax platform Ember has secured £250k in a seed investment round led by Startup Funding Club to support the rollout of its new mobile application.
Powered by open banking, the company aims to simplify accounting procedures by automating tasks such as expense tracking, tax calculations, and submissions. The fresh capital will be directed towards product development, enabling the firm to introduce new features including automated payroll and tax return submissions.
The business, which participates in NatWest's Accelerator Programme, was established by Aaron Shaw and Daniel Hogan to address the administrative burdens faced by contractors and freelancers.
From the founder
"Ember was born out of first-hand frustration with being self-employed and having no financial training. After setting up my own company as an IT contractor, I was struck by how onerous it was to stay on top of my books and taxes. When I eventually buckled and paid an accountant, I felt constantly in the dark about what he was lodging on my behalf. It became painfully obvious to me throughout the whole experience that so much of the accounting function could be automated. I did some digging and discovered that the vast majority of contractors in the market felt the same."
