Echopoint secures £2.8m in seed funding to advance optical sensing heart technology

Echopoint Medical is a London-based medical technology spinout developing optical sensing microcatheters to improve heart disease treatment.
Echopoint has secured £2.8m in a seed round led by UCL Technology Fund, Parkwalk, and Innovate UK. The capital will be deployed to refine the company's optical fibre sensors and technology platform, alongside completing a clinical trial involving up to 30 patients. The funding marks a significant step for the University College London spinout as it addresses diagnostic challenges in coronary heart disease treatment.

"Coronary heart disease is endemic worldwide but far too often the decision to implant a stent is based on sub-optimal information. Our technology addresses the ‘grey zone’ of patients where the requirement for a stent is currently difficult to determine. By using advanced optical sensing technology, we hope to significantly improve the accuracy of current treatments, saving healthcare costs and preventing unnecessary operations for patients that could be treated with medicines."
