Capaltec secures £125k to launch its laser height measuring device
The Belfast start-up raised the capital largely through the Halo business angel network to prepare for its summer product launch.

Belfast-based Capaltec has developed HeightLight, a handheld laser device that calculates the height of objects using angled laser measurement and trigonometry.
Belfast-based measurement technology start-up Capaltec has secured £125k in fresh funding, lifting its total capital raised to £275k over a ten-month period. The latest tranche includes £200k in direct investment from the Northern Ireland business angel network Halo.
The company is preparing to launch its flagship product, a handheld laser height measuring device named HeightLight, during the summer. Designed for sectors such as veterinary medicine and farming, the tool applies trigonometry to calculate height without requiring specialist training.

"If you want to measure the height of a person – or indeed, a horse, wardrobe, door or any number of everyday things – how would you do that? Astonishingly, although it is 2016 and we are surrounded by sophisticated hand-held measurement devices, the only readily available tools for measuring the height of everyday things are sticks and tapes – ‘technologies’ that were invented thousands of years ago."
