Oxford University spinout developing hybrid artificial intelligence to assist organisations with high-stakes decision-making without historical data.

Astut has secured £1.6m in a seed funding round co-led by East X Ventures and Sure Valley Ventures, with participation from the UK Innovation & Science Seed Fund. The Oxford spinout will use the capital to advance its hybrid intelligence platform designed for decision-making in unprecedented scenarios.

The company addresses situations lacking historical data by combining logical reasoning with generative exploration. Its technology is targeted at sectors such as defence, national security, and corporate finance.

Founded in April 2025 by Professor Pete Grindrod CBE, Astut operates from the Culham Science Centre in Abingdon. The firm is currently engaging with organisations including the Ministry of Defence to test its transparent reasoning platform in real-world environments.
