Archangel Lightworks secures over £10m in Series A funding to scale laser communications infrastructure.

Archangel Lightworks has secured over £10m in a Series A funding round to scale its laser communications infrastructure and commercialise its deployable ground station technology. Santander Alternative Investments led the round, with additional backing from the National Security Strategic Investment Fund, Blackfinch Ventures, Oxford Capital, Lycka, and Oxford Science Enterprises.

The capital will accelerate the commercial rollout of TERRA-M, the company's compact optical ground station designed for commercial, civil, and defence markets. Traditional space-to-ground links rely on congested radio frequencies, whereas Archangel uses optical technology to deliver higher bandwidth and security for data-heavy applications.

The business plans to expand its offering beyond hardware sales by developing an optical ground station as a service model. This network layer will allow operators to access high-capacity connectivity on demand as data volumes from orbit continue to increase.
