London startup Aeropowder has secured £150k in investment from the British Design Fund to support the launch of its feather based thermal packaging product. The capital will enable the company to manufacture its initial units of PluumoPlus for the life sciences sector and cold chain logistics.
Dr Ryan Robinson and fellow researchers developed the technology to repurpose waste feathers that would otherwise be incinerated or processed into low grade animal feed. The company holds patents for its thermal materials and is also exploring applications in building insulation and oil spill absorption.
The British Design Fund led the round, offering both financial backing and mentoring support to accelerate commercial growth over the coming year.
