Worldmodeldata is a deeptech startup based in Cambridge that builds artificial intelligence training data libraries sourced from video games.

Cambridge deeptech startup Worldmodeldata has secured £7m in a seed round led by Iona Star Capital. The transaction actually closed last December, though the company waited seven months before making the announcement.

The business plans to use the capital primarily to expand its team as it targets one million hours of gameplay data for artificial intelligence training by the end of 2026. Founder and chief executive Rhea Loucas noted that the company avoided a traditional roadshow and secured the investment quickly after discussions with its backer.

The startup enters a competitive market alongside peers such as Origin Lab and General Intuition, though Worldmodeldata positions itself as an independent data provider rather than a model developer. The company currently operates with a small team and has no finalised customer contracts.

Investor perspective

"That coupling between action and consequence is the scarcest resource in AI today. Worldmodeldata is manufacturing that missing ingredient, and every company building physical AI or digital AI will eventually face the same challenge."
