Upfront Diagnostics secures £1.6m seed funding led by APEX Ventures to scale stroke detection technology.
The seed round was led by APEX Ventures Medical Fund with backing from SBRI Healthcare and the Stroke Association.
Upfront Diagnostics has developed a point-of-care rapid blood test designed to help paramedics identify strokes within minutes. The company focuses on discovering novel biomarkers to improve medical diagnosis and accelerate treatment pathways.
Upfront Diagnostics has secured £1.6m in a seed funding round led by APEX Ventures Medical Fund, with additional support from SBRI Healthcare and the Stroke Association. The fresh capital will be directed towards scaling the company's diagnostic technology and improving its accuracy for identifying large artery strokes in real-world patients.
The funding follows previous grant backing from SBRI Healthcare and arrives as the company seeks to expand its team and prepare for clinical approval. Its flagship product, LVOne, aims to assist paramedics in identifying acute ischaemic strokes caused by large vessel occlusions within 15 minutes.
From the founder

Investor perspective
"I am delighted to back the Upfront Diagnostics team who started their journey in Cambridge, UK. LVOne could revolutionise the stroke care pathway globally, getting patients rapidly into stroke centres and access to interventional radiology services quickly, generating positive clinical outcomes rapidly. It can be a rare find in health tech to find an investment where you change outcomes so definitively, but this is one of them."
