tru.ID operates a passwordless authentication platform that uses SIM card cryptography to provide secure digital identity tools. The company delivers its technology through an API-based software service across multiple international markets.

Digital identity platform tru.ID has secured £6.9m in seed follow-on funding from investors led by Sorenson Ventures alongside Episode 1, MMC Ventures, and NHN Ventures. The capital addition brings the firm's total seed stage funding to $9m. Sorenson Ventures joins the round to provide strategic US-based connections as the company prepares to expand its operations into the American market.

Legacy authentication methods such as passwords and SMS-based PIN codes remain vulnerable to phishing and other cyberattacks. tru.ID attempts to address this threat by combining the ubiquity of mobile phones with the cryptographic security already present in billions of SIM cards worldwide. The company's API platform aims to replace traditional credentials with multi-factor authentication tools that are already live in 20 markets.
