Tribosonics secures £1.1m from Mercia to expand team and develop sensing technology

The Sheffield-based smart sensors business secured backing from NPIF to scale its operations and product development.

Tribosonics provides smart sensing solutions that monitor industrial machinery and components to optimise efficiency, extend plant lifespan, and reduce energy consumption. Its integrated systems combine hardware, software, and edge analytics to deliver operational insights for global industrial clients.

Sheffield-based smart sensors business Tribosonics has raised £1.1m in a seed funding round from Mercia through the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund. The capital will enable the firm to expand its headcount and accelerate product development as it targets global commercial growth.

Founded to tackle industrial friction and wear through embedded ultrasonic measurement technology, the company serves sectors ranging from manufacturing to power generation. Sarah Sandle of Rolls-Royce joins the business as Chair as part of the transaction.
