TaiSan secures £4.7m in seed funding to advance sodium-ion battery development for e-bikes and scooters
Eos Advisory and Mercia Ventures led the round, which will fund pilot tests and relocation to a new Coventry facility.
TaiSan is a Cambridge-based startup developing solid-state sodium-ion batteries for smaller electric transport and power tools.
TaiSan has raised £4.7m in seed funding to develop solid-state sodium-ion batteries targeted at e-bikes, scooters, and power tools. The financing was led jointly by Eos Advisory and Mercia Ventures through the Midlands Engine Investment Fund II, alongside a grant from Innovate UK and participation from ten total investors. The company intends to direct the capital toward pilot manufacturing tests and facility expansion from Cambridge to Coventry.
Founded in 2022 by Sanzhar Taizhan, TaiSan has pivoted its strategic focus away from battery electric vehicles toward micro-mobility applications. The shift coincides with broader sector headwinds, including the recent collapse of US rival Natron Energy and the earlier acquisition of Faradion. With this latest injection, the startup's total funding reaches approximately £6m.
