Sphera secures £1.9m from Green Angel Syndicate and Northstar Ventures to advance low carbon concrete aggregates
The funding round was led by Green Angel Syndicate to support the rollout of carbon negative building materials.
Sphera develops carbon negative aggregates for concrete by recycling waste plastic, helping the construction sector lower its carbon footprint.
Sphera has secured £1.9m in a funding round led by Green Angel Syndicate, alongside Northstar Ventures and construction sector individuals. The capital will support the commercial launch of its carbon negative lightweight concrete aggregate, OSTO, and accelerate product development.
The company has developed a method to recycle otherwise unrecyclable waste plastic into carbon negative aggregates for concrete. Traditional concrete production accounts for a significant portion of global carbon emissions, and Sphera aims to provide sustainable alternatives for builders and developers.
Following a year that included joining the UKGBC Innovative Start-Up Forum, the firm plans to expand its team and facilities through 2022. It also intends to announce several new industry collaborations.
