SPARTA Biodiscovery secures £3.5m from Sartorius to advance nanoparticle analysis technology
Sartorius took a minority shareholding in the London startup through its corporate venture unit to support product commercialisation.
SPARTA Biodiscovery is a spin-out from Imperial College London that develops analytical platforms for characterising nanoparticles used in advanced medicines. Its technology uses Raman spectroscopy to analyse single particles rapidly and automatically.
SPARTA Biodiscovery has secured £3.5m in funding from life science group Sartorius through its corporate investment unit. The capital will support the commercialisation and application of the startup's nanoparticle analysis platform. The platform uses automated Raman trapping to help researchers evaluate nanoformulations used in gene therapies and vaccines.
The technology originates from Imperial College London research groups and aims to address quality control challenges in biopharmaceutical manufacturing. Sartorius has taken a minority shareholding in the company as part of the agreement, which also involves collaboration on product development.
