Solena Materials is a London-based biotech spinout that uses synthetic biology and artificial intelligence to design high-performance, biodegradable protein fibres.
Solena Materials has raised $6.7m in seed funding led by physicist and investor Sir David Harding, with participation from SynBioVen and returning backer Insempra. The capital will enable the London-based biotech company to relocate to a larger facility at Imperial's White City Deep Tech Campus.
The funding will support the expansion of pilot-scale production lines and automated bioreactors as the firm transitions from research and development into manufacturing. Solena is also recruiting for staff in strain development and laboratory operations to support upcoming commercial partnerships for its sustainable textiles.
