Singular Photonics raises $2.2m led by ACF Investors to advance image sensors
The oversubscribed round will fund a next-generation sensor tape-out and team expansion following a surge in sales.
Edinburgh-based startup developing advanced photon-counting image sensors with on-chip processing capabilities.
Singular Photonics has secured $2.2m in an oversubscribed funding round led by ACF Investors to advance its photon-counting sensor technology. The capital will support the creation of a next-generation sensor tape-out and facilitate a doubling of the team size.
The Edinburgh-based spinout, established in 2024 by researchers from the University of Edinburgh, replaces traditional pixel averaging with direct photon counting and on-chip computation. The round attracted participation from Wren Capital, Cambridge Angels, Scottish Enterprise, Quantum Exponential, and Old College Capital.
The fresh injection of capital arrives as the company nears its break-even point following strong sales growth. With strategic partnerships already established and customers in the US and Japan, the firm intends to scale its commercial reach while remaining independent.
From the founder
"Singular Photonics is turning image sensors from passive imaging devices into intelligent sensing platforms. Although SPADs have always been considered highly sensitive photon-counting devices, Singular is now demonstrating that a much greater opportunity has emerged"
