SERG Technologies develops wearable technology and connected platforms designed to enable continuous monitoring and personalised care for people with neurodegenerative movement disorders. The Imperial College London spin-out focuses on improving disease management and treatment outcomes for conditions such as Parkinson's disease.

SERG Technologies has secured £1.6m in a seed financing round led by Mercia, alongside participation from Velocity Partners, Newable, the Imperial College Innovation Fund, a leading Japanese corporation, and private investors. The capital will be deployed to expand the team and advance technology development as the company prepares to launch its NuRO connected platform in the UK and US markets.

The funding follows earlier support including pre-seed backing and grant awards, positioning the business to scale its operations. Initial trials have taken place at Charing Cross Hospital and St George's Hospital in London, with further clinical trials scheduled for summer 2022 to evaluate its tremor treatment system.

The company's core offering centres on the NuRO platform, which provides real-time, continuous assessment of motor symptoms for patients with conditions such as Parkinson's disease. By combining wearable sensors with advanced analytics, the technology aims to bridge the gap between patient monitoring and clinical management.

From the founder

"Our vision is to enable people with Parkinson’s and other neurodegenerative diseases and movement disorders to live healthier lives. NuRO could give patients and clinicians a much clearer picture of their condition, enabling treatment to be tuned accurately as needed. We’re excited to continue our work with leading hospitals and patient groups and to bring our technology to market."

Investor perspective

"One of the current frustrations in treating Parkinson’s disease is that patients are assessed on their symptoms, with a lack of objective data. While there are powerful drugs that can ease the symptoms, it is difficult for doctors to get the right dose or develop better treatments because there is no effective ‘yardstick’ to measure patients’ condition. SERG’s technology could transform treatment by unlocking insights into the disease by providing real-time, continuous feedback."
