Runware secures £9.6m in seed investment led by Insight Partners to expand AI media generation capabilities.
The financing round was led by Insight Partners with participation from a16z Speedrun, Atomico, Begin Capital, and Zero Prime.
Runware provides an AI-as-a-Service platform that reduces media generation costs and accelerates processing speed. The company operates an inference engine designed to handle multiple media types including images and video.
Runware has secured £9.6m in a seed financing round led by Insight Partners. The capital injection also drew participation from previous backers including a16z Speedrun, Atomico, Begin Capital, and Zero Prime. The company intends to direct the proceeds towards extending its inference capabilities from image generation into broader media workflows, beginning with video.
The firm operates on its proprietary Sonic Inference Engine, which combines custom hardware and software design to reduce inference costs significantly. Since launch, the platform has processed billions of images and onboarded tens of thousands of developers. With the new backing, Runware aims to scale its infrastructure to support increasing computational demands for video and other media workloads.
From the founder
"As more and more models launch, devs can have tens or even hundreds of endpoints to integrate with and maintain. Runware solves this problem by delivering access to all the models, at the best price, with the best inference time. We see model providers now moving to our platform and offering their APIs from our inference pod, because we can deliver 90% lower inference cost than any cloud provider."

Investor perspective
"The core of Runware’s advantage is its custom-built Sonic Inference Engine. While others rely on commodity cloud infrastructure, Runware built theirs from the metal up giving them control over latency, throughput, and cost at a fundamental level. That technical edge isn’t just a feature, it’s a moat. It’s what makes Runware the performance leader in AI media generation."
