Opsydia raises £3.5m from Foresight Group to expand diamond identification technology
The funding round was led by Foresight Group alongside existing investors Parkwalk Advisors and Oxford Science Enterprise.
Opsydia is an Oxford University spin-out that develops laser technology to place microscopic, permanent identifiers beneath the surface of diamonds and other gemstones.
Opsydia has secured £3.5m in funding to scale its sub-surface laser inscription technology for the diamond market. The round was led by Foresight Group via its Foresight Williams Technology EIS and VCT funds, with participation from existing backers Parkwalk Advisors and Oxford Science Enterprise.
The capital will be directed towards expanding the company research and development division, focusing on diamond-based electronics and quantum solutions. In addition, the business plans to recruit personnel across its engineering, software development, and production teams to support commercial growth.
Opsydia provides invisible sub-surface identifiers for polished natural and lab-grown diamonds, offering traceable security for miners, jewellers, and grading laboratories. The latest injection of capital follows growing industry demand for verifiable gemstone provenance and protection against fraudulent practices.
