Olix develops photonic AI inference chips designed to provide an efficient alternative to traditional graphics processors. The London-based startup builds optical hardware to reduce the computing costs associated with running artificial intelligence models.
London-based semiconductor startup Olix has secured $220m in a funding round led by Hummingbird Ventures, pushing its valuation above $1bn. The investment brings the company total funding to approximately $250m since its launch in 2024.
The round also drew participation from Plural, LocalGlobe and Entrepreneurs First. The newly raised capital will support the company as it scales its headcount from 70 to over 200 employees across multiple international offices.
Olix is developing an optical tensor processing unit that combines photonics with static random-access memory to handle AI inference tasks. The company plans to begin shipping its first silicon products to customers by 2027.
