The Series A round was led by Acuity Investments to expand the company's DNA-based bio-monitoring products.

£6.5MSeries A

NatureMetrics provides DNA-based bio-monitoring data to help businesses, governments, and NGOs measure their impact on biodiversity. The company uses environmental samples to survey species at scale.

NatureMetrics has secured £6.5m in Series A funding led by Acuity Investments, with participation from SYSTEMIQ and Green Angel Syndicate. The capital will support the expansion of its DNA-based biodiversity monitoring services and international growth across multiple sectors. This funding follows increasing demand from businesses and governments for reliable data to manage environmental impacts and support conservation efforts.

Alongside the equity round, the company secured a £250k grant from Innovate UK to develop in-field detection methods for invasive species. NatureMetrics plans to scale its team significantly as it broadens its market reach to supply environmental data to ESG investors and global supply chains.

From the founder

"Forensic scientists have used DNA to identify individuals at crime scenes for years – now we can use our technology to identify the whole range of species, from bacteria to birds, present in the environment using small samples of soil or water. Our technology can identify tiny fragments of DNA left behind by species and pinpoint exactly which species it is from."

Investor perspective

"we know we’re losing nature at a rapid rate but to date we’ve not had the ability to measure nature at scale to set global goals and to enable businesses to set targets and measure their progress. We can’t manage what we can’t measure. NatureMetrics can replace nets and traps and binoculars with scalable, comprehensive monitoring technology to finally enable companies and investors to understand and manage their impact on nature."
