Nami Surgical raises $4m in investment and grants to scale ultrasonic surgical technology
The seed round was led by Eos Advisory alongside regional public and private backers.
Nami Surgical develops miniaturised ultrasonic surgical devices designed to integrate with robotic surgery platforms. The company spun out from the University of Glasgow in 2022.
Glasgow-based medical technology startup Nami Surgical has raised $4m in a combined investment and grant funding round. The financing comprises a $3.1m seed round led by Eos Advisory, with participation from the Investment Fund for Scotland, managed by Maven and supported by the British Business Bank, Scottish Enterprise, and SIS Ventures. The company also secured a grant from Innovate UK.
Founded in 2022 as a spin-out from the University of Glasgow, Nami Surgical builds miniature ultrasonic surgical devices, including a compact ultrasonic scalpel suitable for robotic assistance. The company intends to direct the fresh capital towards expanding its operations and research and development activities as it approaches commercialisation.
Chief executive Nico Fenu noted that the business currently has pilot programmes running with healthcare and medical device groups internationally, including in the United States. Albert Nicholl serves as chair of the company.
