Molyon develops next-generation lithium-sulfur batteries that offer double the energy density of standard lithium-ion cells. The company emerged from research at the University of Cambridge.

Molyon has secured $4.6m in its first funding round, co-led by IQ Capital and Plural. The capital will be used to expand the team and establish a pilot manufacturing facility. The company's technology aims to resolve the traditional degradation challenges of lithium-sulfur batteries, offering improved range and reduced weight for applications in robotics and aerial drones.

The business stems from over a decade of materials science research within the Chhowalla Group at the University of Cambridge. Its cathode technology utilises metallic molybdenum disulfide to stabilise sulfur during cycling, achieving practical energy densities of 500 Wh per kg.
