MicrofluidX secures £1.4m seed investment from UKI2S and Longwall Ventures to develop bioprocessing technology
The seed round was led by UKI2S and Longwall Ventures to support cell therapy bioprocessing development.
MicrofluidX develops next-generation bioreactors and scalable cell culture platforms for advanced research and manufacturing.
MicrofluidX has secured £1.4m in seed funding to advance its cell bioprocessing technology. The financing was led by the UK Innovation & Science Seed Fund, Longwall Ventures, and Moulton Goodies Limited, alongside angel contributions from 88 Capital and Cambridge Angels.
The capital will support the construction of a working prototype to generate comparative biological data against conventional single-use technologies and fund ongoing partner trials. Antoine Espinet noted the company is establishing key partnerships with biotech and pharmaceutical firms alongside existing collaborations with the Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult and the Centre for Process Innovation.
Investors highlighted the clear market demand for addressing manufacturing hurdles such as cost and scalability in advanced therapeutics. The latest injection aims to lower the expenses associated with life-changing treatments.
From the founder
"We are thrilled to close this initial funding round with help from UKI2S. We are continuing to establish partnerships with Biotech and Pharma, on top of our existing partnerships with the Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult and the Centre for Process Innovation. The funding will be used to further develop our technology, as well as fund trials with our partners."

CEO at MicrofluidX
Investor perspective
"There is a clear unmet need in cell and gene therapy manufacturing. The key issues such as cost-of-goods, batch variability and scalability can all be addressed using MicrofluidX technology. The downstream effects of solving these manufacturing problems will lead to cheaper advanced therapeutics and faster manufacturing timelines and in turn increase the adoption of these disease modifying and life changing therapies."
