The funding round was led by Technology Venture Partners alongside government backing to support the commercialisation of a new breast scanning system.

£1.9MSeries A

Micrima is a commercial stage company that develops a radiofrequency imaging system for early breast cancer diagnosis. The firm has established distribution channels in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Bristol-based medical imaging firm Micrima has secured £1.9m in a Series A follow-on funding round, which is being matched by the UK government Future Fund to bring total financing to £3.8m. The investment was led by Technology Venture Partners, with participation from Angel CoFund, Greenwood Way Capital and Venture Partners. The proceeds will support the commercialisation of the company's seventh-generation MARIA system and the ongoing development of automated findings classification.

The latest round follows initial sales of the radiofrequency breast scanning technology and precedes a full commercial launch. Micrima's device uses radio waves rather than ionising radiation and avoids breast compression, offering an alternative to standard diagnostic methods particularly in dense tissue. The company currently has distribution agreements in place across Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

From the founder

"this investment will allow us to move the company into the next phase with a system that has a place in a clinical workflow and more exciting functionality to come as soon as clinical data collection can re commence"
