Mercuri raises £50m for second fund to invest in media technology startups
The London-based venture capital firm secured the capital from institutional backers including the British Business Bank.
Mercuri is a venture capital firm that backs early stage media technology startups. The London-based investor targets businesses operating at the intersection of media and artificial intelligence.
Media technology investor Mercuri has raised £50m for its second fund from a diversified group of institutional investors. The vehicle includes a cornerstone commitment from the British Business Bank through its Enterprise Capital Fund programme.
The fresh capital will be deployed into UK startups reinventing traditional media models using artificial intelligence. Mercuri intends to make up to eight investments annually while retaining capital for follow-on funding.
The raise follows the firm's £42m inaugural fund, which operated under the name GMG Ventures and was anchored by The Scott Trust. Mercuri plans to leverage its expanded network and sector expertise to support founders across content creation, distribution, consumption, and monetisation.
Investor perspective
"We are delighted to announce the launch of our first multi-LP fund at a time when this profound progress in artificial intelligence is impacting the entire media technology ecosystem, including the creator economy, gaming, music, privacy, education, community and communication."
