Matter is an innovation company based in Bristol that pioneers technology solutions for capturing, harvesting, and recycling microplastics.

Bristol-based microplastic technology company Matter has secured £370k in seed follow on funding from Builders Vision, completing a pre-series a investment round with $0.5m in total backing from the investor's Rising Tide Fund. The capital follows a recent £150k investment from the British Design Fund and entry into the Elemental Excelerator programme.

Founded in 2017 by Adam Root, the company develops retrofit filter solutions for domestic washing machines to prevent microfibres from entering water systems. The firm is also collaborating with researchers to develop new reuse technologies for captured microplastics and is launching a series a round to scale its operations.

From the founder

"Builders Vision stands behind those on the frontlines working to build a more humane and healthy planet. Through their investments, they aim to drive positive change and show that the most successful businesses are purpose driven. This is intrinsically aligned to what we have set out to achieve with Matter. We are thrilled to welcome Peter and his team into the Matter family and the added value they have already brought was instrumental in our choice to bring them on to the cap table."
