Lapse operates a popular photo sharing application that emulates the casual feel of disposable cameras. The platform encourages users to capture unedited moments with friends without the pressure of traditional curation.

London based startup Lapse has secured £1m in a seed round closed over four days. The financing was led by Speedinvest alongside participation from Atomico and a selection of prominent angel investors. The fresh capital will be directed toward further product development.

Founded by brothers Ben and Dan Silvertown, the company launched its invite only iOS application to recreate the anticipation of pre digital photography. Users take 36 shots within private group chats, which remain hidden for 24 hours before developing. The platform previously gathered significant momentum with over 150,000 pre orders on the Apple App Store.

From the founder

"In a world where you order food in a tap, hail taxis in an instant, and swipe to date, there’s something oddly exhilarating about being forced to wait. Before digital cameras you had no idea what you captured. The suspense of not knowing paired with seeing your snaps for the first time is a powerful feeling. We’ve re-created that experience and made it social"

Investor perspective

"Social networks started with the goal of connecting the world. But when everyone is connected, broadcasters and influencers drown out real, personal connections. This is where Lapse comes in"
