Kuai Commerce helps international brands sell their products in China through social commerce. The company was founded by entrepreneur Jonny Plein.

Kuai Commerce has raised £2m in an oversubscribed pre-seed round led by Playfair Capital. The financing drew participation from Unbundled VC, Portfolio Ventures, Haatch, and several angel investors, including podcast hosts James Pringle and Hector Mason.

The capital follows the company's formation by founder Jonny Plein, who previously established Pouch before selling it to Global Savings Group. Kuai Commerce assists international brands in navigating sales within the Chinese market via social commerce channels.

The investment highlights how emerging media platforms can create direct avenues for venture financing. The founders of the Riding Unicorns podcast backed the business after originally interviewing Plein on their show.

From the founder

"James and Hector have been really engaged since I appeared on the podcast and it made sense to invite them into what was a highly competitive round due to their network, experience and willingness to help and support."

Investor perspective

"It’s a really exciting moment for Hector and I as we make our first investment together in a founder that featured on the podcast. Riding Unicorns is predominantly a media entity but we receive deal flow and brand awareness through the show and so it makes sense that as VCs, we capitalise on these unique investment opportunities."
