Karakuri secures £6.3m in seed follow-on funding led by firstminute capital to accelerate technology development.
The funding round was led by firstminute capital and will support the development of new products beyond the DK-One.
Karakuri is a UK based robotics company that designs and builds automated systems for the food and hospitality sector. The firm produces the DK-One, an automated canteen system capable of preparing personalised meals.
London-based robotics firm Karakuri has secured £6.3m in a seed follow-on funding round. The investment was led by firstminute capital, with participation from Hoxton Ventures, Taylor Brothers, Ocado Group, and the UK government-backed Future Fund.
The capital will be directed towards accelerating the development of the company's core technologies and expanding its product line beyond its flagship DK-One automated canteen system. The pre-production version of the robot is currently undergoing customer evaluation at the company's Hammersmith facility ahead of wider site trials planned for the first half of 2021.
From the founder
"This is one of the most highly-anticipated stages of our business and a really important step. We’ve spent time talking to our customers and industry specialists, and seen huge enthusiasm for DK-One’s potential. Now up and running, this will be the first time we can use a pre-production machine to demonstrate the DK-One’s commercial and nutritional benefits in the real world and thus demonstrate our vision for the future of food. I am proud of our amazing team for the work they’ve done to get this far this quickly, despite the challenges of the pandemic. We are all really excited to begin fulfilling our customer’s expectations."
